Visa Debit Card Activation and PIN FAQ
Activating your card and setting a new PIN
Follow the instructions on the letter your card came with to activate it and set a PIN via Internet Banking or the Bank of Melbourne App. Once you have activated your new card, you will need to set your PIN before you’re able to use it.
How do I activate my new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card and set a PIN?
Whether you're a personal or business Bank of Melbourne customer, follow these steps:
Using Internet Banking
- Logon to Internet Banking
- Select Manage my accounts
- Select Activate new card
- Enter the card number and then select Continue
- Search Change Card PIN and select the relevant card
- Follow the security prompts, enter a new card PIN then select Confirm
Using the Bank of Melbourne App
- Logon to the Bank of Melbourne App
- Select Services
- Select Activate a card from the My Cards menu
- Enter the card number and then select Activate card
- After activating the card, search Change Card PIN and select the relevant card
- Follow the security prompts, enter a new card PIN then select Confirm
When do I need to activate my new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card?
To maintain card access to your account, you should activate your new card and set a PIN as soon as you receive it. If you don’t activate your new card by the closure date stated in your letter, your existing Debit Card will stop working and you won’t have card access for transactions.
Once I activate my new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card, what happens to the existing Debit card?
Your existing card will work until the date specified in your letter.
What happens if I don’t activate the new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card by the notified closure date?
If you don't activate your Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card before the notified closure date, your previous Debit card will stop working and you won’t have card access to your account(s). However, your account will remain open, and you can continue to make account-related transactions, such as sending and receiving electronic funds transfers. You can activate your Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card at any time to restore card access to your account(s).
Once I have activated my new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card what do I need to do with my previous Debit card?
We recommend securely disposing of your old Debit card after you’ve activated and set a PIN for your new card. Cut your old Debit card into small pieces, making sure you cut through the chip and magnetic strip.

Register for Internet or Mobile Banking, then logon and follow the steps above.
Once my card is activated, can I start using it?
You must ensure you set up your PIN before you can use your card, as it won’t be the same as your old Debit card.
Do I need to set up a new PIN?
Yes. After you activate your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card, you’ll need to set up a new PIN. The instructions to activate your card and set up your PIN will be outlined in the letter that comes with your card, simply follow the steps provided to set up your PIN.
Can I reuse the same PIN on my new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card?
Yes, you can choose to set the same PIN on the new card. Please note, to enhance the security of your card it’s recommended to update your PIN regularly.
How can I set a PIN if I’m not registered for Internet Banking?
If you’ve never registered for Bank of Melbourne Internet Banking, we’ll mail your PIN approximately two days after your card is mailed to you. Once you receive your PIN in the mail, you can use a Bank of Melbourne ATM or visit a Bank of Melbourne branch with your card and photo ID to activate your card and set up your PIN.
