What do I need to know about the Debit card to Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card transition?

The transition from existing Debit cards to Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit cards will begin in early 2026 and continue through to mid-late 2026. It will occur in stages, and customers will be contacted before their transition.

When will I receive my new Visa Debit card?

You’ll receive your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card by mail within 30-45 days of receiving the initial notification of the upcoming change. Check your email and mail for updates.

Important: When you receive the new card you must activate the card and set up a new PIN.

Please ensure that your contact details including your address, phone number, and email are up to date, so you don’t miss any important notifications. Refer to the FAQ “How do I update my contact details?” below for further information.

Register for Bank of Melbourne Internet Banking

If you don’t have Bank of Melbourne Internet Banking, you can register. This will allow you to set up your PIN and activate your new card at any time.

Alternative assistance: You can contact us on 1300 307 080 (8am – 5pm AEST/AEDT, Monday - Friday) or visit your nearest branch for help. You can find your nearest branch on our locate us page.

Follow activation instructions: Once your new card arrives, activate the card and set up a new PIN as per the instructions mentioned in the letter, before your existing Debit cards’ closure date.

How will I know my new card is on the way?

You’ll receive notifications via email and/or letter to let you know that the new card is on the way.

Where will my new card be sent?

Your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card will be mailed to your nominated postal address - the one registered in our system or where you currently receive replacement cards. If you have multiple card holders on the account who also require transition, we will send communications and cards to the address listed on their profile, which may be at a different time.

You can check or update these details via Bank of Melbourne Banking, the Bank of Melbourne App, or by contacting us.

How do I update my contact details?

To ensure your card and notifications reach you, update your address, phone number, and email by the date specified in our initial communication.

  1. Logon to Internet Banking or the Bank of Melbourne App
  2. Select Services
  3. Under My Details, select Update contact details
  4. Enter in your Secure Code
  5. Select Edit addresses, Edit email address or Edit phone numbers and make your updates
  6. Select Confirm
  7. Select Done

Make sure details for any additional cardholders are also up to date.

Can I still use my Debit card during the transition?

Yes, you can continue using your existing Debit card until the closure date mentioned in your letter.

If you do not activate your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card by the closure date stated in your letter, your existing Debit card will stop working after that date. If the new card has not been activated by then, you will not have card access to your account. Your account will remain open, and you can still make account-related transactions such as sending and receiving electronic funds transfers.

Will there be any disruptions to my payments?

Your account details, including your account number and BSB, will remain unchanged. This means payments set up using your account number will continue as usual and will not be affected by the card change.

However, any payments or recurring transactions that use your debit card number (such as subscriptions or services linked to your card) will need to be updated to your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit Card number once you receive and activate your new card. If these details are not updated, those payments may fail.

Will my card or account number change?

You’ll receive a new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card with a new card number. Your account number and account type will remain the same, so any payments or direct debits linked to your account using the BSB and account number will not be affected.

Are there any costs when changing to a Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card?

There are no costs for receiving your new Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card. Bank of Melbourne doesn't charge a fee for most transactions made in Australia (instore or online) or at a Westpac Group ATM. However, some fees may apply. Please refer to the Visa Debit card Terms and Conditions (PDF 376KB) for details.
